Our Journey in Community-Based Research

Image
Conducting our Community-Based Research (CBR) was a journey filled with collaboration, challenges, and learning experiences. From brainstorming ideas to writing our research paper and developing a webpage, our team worked together to bring our project to life. Along the way, we encountered obstacles, such as coding errors and revisions, but through teamwork and determination, we overcame them. This photoblog captures the key moments of our research journey, highlighting the effort, dedication, and growth we experienced throughout the process. Our team gathered in the library to discuss our research topic, assign tasks, and brainstorm ideas. Collaboration was essential to ensure that we covered all aspects of our study. After collecting data, we focused on writing our research paper. Late nights, revisions, and teamwork helped us complete this part of our study. To gather valuable insights, we conducted interviews with individuals relevant to our study. These conversations provided us w...

Valentine’s Day… Kinda Cringe but Kinda Cute Too?

Image
Okay, so Valentine’s Day. It’s that time of year when people go all out, lowers, chocolates, matching outfits, and those long, dramatic love posts. And honestly? I think it’s kinda cringe. Like, why do we need a specific day to show love when we can do it anytime? But at the same time… I guess it’s kinda cute too? We celebrate Valentine’s Day to appreciate the people we care about, whether it’s a partner, friends, or family. But the thing is, I don’t really know how to express affection yet. Some people are all about hugs and “I love yous,” while others prefer giving gifts or just spending time together. I’m still trying to figure out my love language, so idk how I’d actually show love without feeling awkward. Maybe Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be that deep. Maybe it’s just about making an effort, even if it’s something small, like sending a meme to a friend, hanging out, or even just treating yourself. I mean, love is love, right? No need for grand gestures if that’s no...

Third Quarter Reflection: Learning, Struggles, and Moving Forward

Image
The third quarter has been a rollercoaster of learning experiences. From HTML lists to community-based research (CBR), and even developing a webpage for our research, I’ve picked up a lot of new skills—some fun, some frustrating, but all valuable. Looking back, here's what I learned, the difficulties I encountered, and how I overcame them.   This quarter, I gained a better understanding of  HTML lists , which appeared simple at first but turned out to be important and crucial for organizing content on a website. I learned how to utilize ordered, unordered, and definition lists, as well as how to correctly nest them.      Another important lesson was community-based research (CBR), which taught me the value of getting firsthand information from actual communities rather than depending exclusively on Internet sources. This method helped me see how research may be more meaningful and influential in solving real-life problems and challenge...

Why Filipinos Celebrate Chinese New Year: History, Luck, and Tradition

Image
Chinese New Year is one of those holidays that Filipinos have thoroughly embraced, even if it did not originate here. Every year, we see red lanterns everywhere, dragon dances in the streets, and tikoy being handed out like gifts. Have you ever wondered why we celebrate it so much? What makes this Chinese tradition so popular and such a big deal in the Philippines?      Filipinos and Chinese have a long history that predates the arrival of the Spaniards. Chinese traders began conducting business in the Philippines centuries ago, bringing not only goods but also their culture and traditions. Many of them settled here, married locals, and established villages. That is why many Filipinos today have Chinese heritage and even those who do not still follow some Chinese rituals, particularly around New Year's.      Let's be honest: Filipinos adore and love anything that brings good fortune. We believe in attracting success through feng shui, lu...

Vigan Cityhood: Vigan as a Municipality then and Vigan as a City now.

Image
Vigan has always been special. It makes you feel like you've stepped back in time with its Spanish-inspired buildings, cobblestone streets, and rich tradition. But did you realize that Vigan was not always the thriving metropolis it is now? Before being declared a city in 2001, it was a municipality—quieter, simpler, though already rich in history. So, what has changed? And what remained the same?      Then, Vigan was a little town where life moved slowly. The economy was mostly on farming, fishing, and traditional crafts such as ceramics and weaving. Tourism was less prevalent, and the streets weren’t filled with tourists. However, Vigan was already a treasure. The Spanish-era architecture, local cuisine, and deeply ingrained customs made it a distinct and appealing destination. Of course, being a municipality has its drawbacks. Infrastructure and development resources were limited, and chances for expansion were restricted. The objective was to prese...

Becoming the Best Version of Myself in 2025: Maria 2.0

Image
2025 is here, and I’m ready to take on the year with a fresh mindset! Every year, I hear the saying “New Year, New Me,” but this time I actually want to live by it.      First, I’m setting goals to help me grow. I want to be more organized, no more forgetting homework or losing important stuff in my bag. I’m also going to work on my health. That doesn’t mean I’m giving up snacks completely (let’s be real, chips are life), but I want to eat better and try to exercise more.           Another big goal is to focus on my mental health. I’m planning to write in a journal regularly and practice gratitude. Even when things get tough, I want to remind myself of the good things in life.           Lastly, I’m hoping to explore new hobbies. Maybe I’ll try painting, learn a new skill, or even just spend more time outdoors. The idea is to keep things interesting and challenge myself to step ou...
